UPS
and UCMS are Professional Development Schools for CSUCI.
In this collaborative relationship we regularly work with
student teachers, service learning students, and University
faculty.
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves
as assistant administrator of the schools, assumes full
responsibility for its operation in the absence of the
superintendent/principal and does related work as required.
- Assists
in the establishment, oversight, and enforcement of the
schools’ policies and procedures.
- Gathers
information and prepares reports for the superintendent/principal;
takes charge of special school projects.
- Assists
with school counseling and guidance and special programs.
- Responsible
for the school attendance accounting system and policies
and procedures relating to attendance.
- Assists
in advertising and public relations and admissions administration.
- Confers
with students, teachers, parents and law enforcement departments
and prepares correspondence on matters of attendance and
behavioral problems.
- Assists
with curriculum planning, development and instructional
program for the school.
- Assists
in emergency planning and site maintenance coordination.
- Makes
classroom visitations, discusses performance evaluation
with teachers and superintendent/principal and assists
in teacher evaluation.
- Assists
administrative team with Charter School responsibilities
in the areas of Personnel, Benefits, State/Federal reports,
and facilities.
SELECTION
CRITERIA
- Training
and Experience
- Ability
to work with diverse student population.
- Knowledge
of Middle School reform.
- Ability
to perform multiple tasks.
- Appropriate
earned California Administrative Credential, CBEST clearance,
and CLAD.
- Knowledge
of operation and administration of school district and
charter, laws, rules and regulations.
- Ability
to communicate and work effectively with teachers, classified
employees, parents, students and other community members.
- Ability
to organize and administer effective school activity programs.
- Ability
to evaluate educational programs and provide leadership
for their improvement.
- Five
years teaching experience in a public elementary or middle
school.
- Spanish
language proficiency preferred.
- Administrative
experience preferred.
Leadership / Management
- Excellent
interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop
and keep the trust and confidence of others; the ability
to deal successfully with different personalities and
styles.
- Excellent
communication skills, including speaking, listening and
writing skills.
- Experience
and skill in motivating others and in utilizing staff
to maximize their capabilities.

in the selection of school site staff.

and Finance
Knowledge of school finance, budgeting, and business operations,
and the ability to manage the schools’ finances and
resources in a responsible manner.

Management / Staff Relations
- Demonstrated
record of dealing with divergent opinions and controversy.
- Demonstrated
ability in assigning responsibility, delegating authority,
insisting on personal and staff accountability, and recognizing
exceptional performance.
- Demonstrated
willingness to utilize the professional knowledge and
skills of staff in decision making.
- This
administrator will be supervised by the superintendent/principal
on site.
SALARY
Salary
