FAME (Families of Alameda County for Multicultural Education)
Public Charter School is a chartered public school serving
students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our high school
program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools
and Colleges. Enrollment in our school is open to all students
in Alameda County and the six contiguous counties (Contra
Costa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Santa Clara, San Mateo and
San Francisco) surrounding it. No tuition is charged for
enrollment. Families can choose to enroll in one of three
programs: Independent Study; Fremont site-based, or San
Leandro site-based.
General
Description
FAME is seeking highly qualified Language, Speech, and Hearing
Specialists to serve students receiving Special Education
(SE) services at their San Leandro and Fremont School Sites
and for the Independent Study Program. A qualified applicant
will promote positive outcomes designed to meet the diverse
cultural and linguistic needs for all students. S/he will
apply knowledge and skills to implement effective direct
therapy with students having mild to severe language, speech,
and/or hearing disabilities, assessment procedures, consultation
services, and intervention strategies in a responsive manner
to insure that students receive services that support academic,
personal, and social success.
Responsibilities and Duties:

Provide direct therapy to students having mild to severe
language, speech, and/or hearing disabilities
- Conducts
assessment/evaluation of student abilities and needs
-
Develops instructional activities to meet the student’s
individual language, speech, and hearing goals/objectives
which are based upon the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
-
Develop and implement IEPs in cooperation with parents
and other IEP team members; serve as the case manager
for those students
-
Schedule and lead IEP team meetings to assess and plan
activities for pupils enrolled in the program in compliance
with SE regulation
-
Maintain necessary documentation and student files for
all students on case load in compliance with SE reporting
requirements
- Collaborate
with other team members to develop an instructional program
designed to meet the educational objectives established
in the IEP

Work in the general education classrooms or home study
environment with students receiving SE services
-
Assess student progress toward meeting IEP goals annually,
using District approved assessment tools in collaboration
with other IEP team members such as Resource Specialists,
Occupational Therapists, Independent Study Teachers, etc.

Maintain confidentiality
- Communicate
with other personnel to coordinate programs and exchange
information; attend staff meetings to communicate ideas
and resolve issues

Provide collaborative consultation to staff about curriculum
and instruction; provide classroom teachers suggestions
for the accommodations/modifications for students in SE
in the classroom

Conduct and participate in conferences and in-services
-
May perform other responsibilities as prescribed
Knowledge
of:
-
Possess knowledge of educational practices, methods, and
theory with emphasis on the principles and techniques
of recognizing, testing, evaluating, and teaching students
with mild to severe language, speech, and/or hearing disabilities;
and knowledge of non-verbal communication techniques and
system, e.g., sign language, communication boards, computers,
tactile boards

Child guidance principals and practices related to students
with special education needs
-
Curriculum and lesson plan development to meet IEP goals
-
Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other
applicable laws.

Basic computer operation.
-
First aid and CPR
-
Student and parent rights with respect to special education
programs
Qualifications:
-
Minimum of three years of experience in special education,
along with appropriate CA Special Education Credential
authorizing services as a language, speech, and hearing
therapist
-
Credential must be registered with the Alameda County
Superintendent of Schools
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills along
with global and systematic perspective on general and
special education
-
A successful candidate will have strong technical and
interpersonal skills and work as a team
-
Demonstrate knowledge of effective staff development practices
-
Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and tuberculosis
clearance required prior to employment.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range $65,000-$80,000 plus benefits, based on qualification
and experience. Position is full-time; year round.
