DESCRIPTION
Gateway
to College Early College High School is seeking an experienced
English/language arts instructor with high school and/or
alternative education teaching experiences to provide instruction
and support for learners enrolled in a unique charter school
which serves at-risk high school students and high school
dropouts ages 16–20. The selected individual must
possess strong instructional skills in the areas of curriculum
and instruction, personnel and community engagement. It
is desired that the successful candidate have experience
teaching in academic intervention programs for at risk youth
and Professional Learning Community collaboration.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides instructional planning for Gateway to College
Early College High School which may include development
of curriculum, competencies for completion, and evaluation
methods.
2. Works with school administration to assure that curriculum
responds to mandated content standards and assessments.
3. Participates in program recruitment and selection processes.
4. Maintains program statistics relating to enrollments,
success rates, attendance and other data.
5. Ensures communication with program faculty and staff
in order to provide the best service to program participants.
6. Keeps pace with all current developments in local, state
and national trends in the areas of curriculum and instruction
as they relate to Gateway to College.
7. Participates in staff-development workshops and activities.
8. Meets with students and parents to ensure student success.
9. Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Credential and Education
Valid California credential authorizing service as stated
or ability to obtain proper credentials.

Experience
a. High School teaching experience
b. Experience working with dropped out and at-risk high
school youth highly desirable
c. Recent training and experience in Specially Designed
Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) and high school
curriculum/instructional reform initiatives highly desirable
Other:
Must show evidence of sensitivity to and understanding
of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability,
and ethnic backgrounds of high school and community college
students.
Ability
to: Work with at-risk and culturally diverse student
populations; work with students in advising and developing
goals; assess student needs and coordinate educational services;
develop and refine curriculum; manage classroom behavior;
maintain confidentiality in all matters as appropriate;
learn, interpret and apply school and college rules, policies
and procedures; plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments
and work activities; communicate effectively in written
and oral form; deal tactfully and effectively with students,
parents, co-workers, and the general public; maintain accurate
and well-organized records; use computers for data and word
processing and operate various supporting software packages,
including web-based programs for monitoring grades, attendance
and student outcomes.
CONDITIONS
OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a funded position through June 30, 2009, with the
possibility of extension. Continuation of employment is
contingent upon availability of continuing funds.
40 hours per week with assignment, Monday
through Friday (occasional evenings required)
10 months per year
SALARY
$50,000 plus benefits, no health
