Cloud and Fire ministries, a youth development and vocational training program seeks a qualified teacher for an exciting new program, Cloud and Fire YouthBuild.  Cloud and Fire YouthBuild serves at-risk youth through classroom and construction training in the San Fernando Valley. 

The teacher will run a charter school classroom for youth/young adults seeking to earn their GED and complete their HS Diploma.  Cloud and Fire/John Muir Charter School seeks a creative, motivating teacher who is able to adapt curriculum to teach GED preparation and academic courses in an alternative charter school setting leading towards completion of a high school diploma.  Cloud and Fire seeks a teacher with passion devoted to student success in a creative educational setting. 

Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
1. Prepare monthly and weekly lesson plans.
2. Develop plans to provide well-rounded individualized and group instruction as appropriate.
3. Identify and use appropriate tools to assess, document and report student periodic and final progress.
4. Utilize a variety of appropriate instructional methods to address different learning styles.
5. Review and recommend necessary and appropriate instructional materials and equipment.
6. Assess Members need for and provide special tutoring as necessary.
7. Work and coordinate with other staff to incorporate practical academic learning experiences related to Life Skills, Leadership, Construction and other appropriate subjects.
8. Assist in identification of outside resources related to education.
9. Identify and provide opportunities in the classroom for Members to demonstrate Leadership skills.
10. Participate in community service projects, attend retreats, workshops and conferences as required.
11. Inform Case Management and other appropriate staff of student issues that affect student progress
12. Review, evaluate, monitor, report and document student attendance and progress.
13. Maintain individual confidential student educational files including work samples, lesson plans, educational progress, attendance sheets and educational service plans.

Minimum Qualifications

- A current California teaching credential is required. California multiple subjects credential is preferred.
- One year of experience in Adult and/or alternative educational instruction related to preparation for the high school diploma is a plus.
- Bachelors degree in Education or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to engage young people from "at risk" conditions in meaningful, interesting and creative learning experiences.
- Experience working with "at risk" youth.
- Experience in curriculum and lesson planning and development.
- Experience in or knowledge of individualizing instruction to meet each student's needs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to make group presentations and facilitate group activities.
- Ability to team-teach and work effectively as a part of a team.
- Sincere desire to assist young people to succeed, develop self-confidence and effective leadership skills; familiarity with various challenges and issues faced by youth from low-income communities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making effective decisions and in problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated interest in volunteerism.

Compensation
$40,000-$59,500 depending on experience and qualifications.  This is a year-round, 260 day teaching position.  Teachers accrue vacation time to be negotiated at time of hire.  Full medical, dental, and vision benefits.
