for talented and committed teachers to join our group of
dynamic educators at one of the most innovative public schools
on the westside of Los Angeles.
Our
ideal candidates have Waldorf training and experience, as
well as California State certification, as our curriculum
offers a blending of both approaches. We are also interested
in individuals with either a California credential or Waldorf
training who are willing to complete additional training
and credentialing as a requirement of the job.
First
Grade
This is a position for someone who is gifted with children
and seeking to work with the imagination and will of students,
as well as their intellect. It is also a position that continues
with same students through consecutive grades as a part
of a loop. Other desired qualities include musical ability,
talent for storytelling, and interest in adapting state
standards to a Waldorf-methods curriculum.
Fourth
Grade
This individual should possess: A zeal for the challenge
to bring the rich Waldorf curriculum to life while meeting
state learning standards; a desire to instruct contextually
and bring art experience everyday to the classroom; an appreciation
for ancient mythologies and cultures, as well as scientific
inquiry; and a commitment to teach to diverse learning styles.
This teacher continues with the students through consecutive
grades as a part of a loop.
Spanish
Teacher Grades 1-8
We are looking for a teacher to provide Spanish language
education in complement to our Whole Child Curriculum, based
on Waldorf teaching methods, available for Fall 2008.
Experience
in teaching elementary and middle school-age children with
meeting the developmental needs of each grade is a requirement.
Knowledge of songs, games, and stories and cultural celebrations,
as well as exercises in speaking, reading, and writing is
fundamental for this position.
Ocean
Charter is a K-8 school on the west side of Los Angeles
in a rich cultural area--close to museums, theaters, universities
and the ocean. We are adding a class every year to a 2-class-per-grade
capacity. We have 17 full-time teachers; with support from
a group of foreign language, handwork, games, woodworking,
music (strings, recorder/chorus, percussion), and Eurythmy
part-time teachers; and a full-time Special Ed and teaching
resources coordinator working together to bring forth Waldorf
education in a standards-integrated environment. Our faculty
is a group of talented and committed professionals, our
administration is strong and capable, our parent body is
supportive and caring. And our children--well, they are
happy, inquisitive, and thriving!
Our
2008-2009 salary range considers responsibility, qualifications
and experience with salaries commensurate with surrounding
districts. We offer full benefits, including a teacher retirement
plan through the State of California.
