Job Description

The Pacific Community Charter School is a K-12 school entering its tenth year of operation. We are located on the beautiful, rural Mendocino Coast about four hours north of San Francisco.

Mission Statement. The mission of the Pacific School is to provide a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum which prepares students to enter higher education and occupations in their communities with an understanding of their geographic and historical roots and the goals toward which they can grow as adults. The guiding principle of the School is that the best preparation for life includes an education that is challenging to all students and respectful of individuals: an environment of friendship, self-reliance, honesty, initiative, courage and creativity in which everyone belongs.

All staff members must be familiar with, and committed to, the goals and educational approach of PCCS as written in the school’s Charter and other documents. These include the following core principles:

• It is understood that at PCCS teachers, administrators and parents are partners with students in the learning process.
• Each child is a unique individual.
• Each child learns in different ways.
• Children learn responsibly and willingly in a situation that they have helped create.
• The basic skills can be learned through an integrated curriculum which develops out of the children’s interests.
• The ability to question, reason, problem-solve, and function as effective, responsible, compassionate members of society are “basic skills” in our world.
• Achieving measurable educational goals of students is the primary responsibility of the teaching staff.

PCCS uses a wide variety of instructional methods, both tradition and nontraditional, in all subject areas. PCCS weaves the arts into every aspect of the curriculum. All classrooms are multi-aged. An electives program brings the community into the school and the students into the community. Teachers and staff develop specific curricula to help students learn to think, communicate and relate.
