East
Palo Alto Academy, a recently established elementary charter
school in partnership with Stanford University, is seeking
highly qualified, collaborative, hard working and committed
teachers for the 2007-08 school year. In the 2006-2007 school
year we enrolled students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 6th
grades. In 2008-2009 we will enroll students in K, 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 7th and 8th grades.
East
Palo Alto Academy is designed to be an exemplary school
for students, a professional development site for Stanford’s
teacher certification programs, and a place where Stanford
faculty and charter teachers co-investigate problems of
urban practice to enhance learning outcomes for every child.
East
Palo Alto Academy prepares its students with the knowledge,
intellectual strategies, skills and habits of mind for lifelong
success in terms of higher education, meaningful employment,
and participation in a 21st century civic and global society.
We expect that:

EPAA students will be proficient in English and math by
3rd grade

EPAA students will meet California’s subject matter
standards

EPAA students will develop a love of learning

EPAA students will learn to make connections between their
academic learning and the outside world

Palo Alto Academy teachers participate in ongoing public
reflective conversations about their practice, systematic
analysis of student work to guide instructional decisions,
collaborative lesson planning and study, and professional
development.
The
school calendar includes 190 student contact days, 1 Saturday
per month, and 12-15 days of professional development and/or
planning. East Palo Alto Academy has a six and one-half
hour instructional day.
Salary
will be based on applicable experience. Base salary $45,000.
ELEMENTARY
TEACHERS WANTED FOR 2008-09: Applicants must be
fully credentialed. Urban teaching experience, expertise
in incorporating balanced literacy across content areas,
experience with multi-age classrooms, and experience teaching
English language learners are highly valued. Spanish fluency
is desirable.
