Job Description

The Director of Development will work with the Principal and Governing Board to determine long term plans and fundraising strategies, and create and implement a comprehensive development plan. The Director of Development will lead grant writing efforts. The Director of Development will work on a full time basis.
We seek a self-directed development professional who shares our vision and commitment to educational reform and can greatly develop and expand fundraising initiatives.

We prefer candidates with at least two years of fund-raising and grant writing experience. We may consider exceptionally strong candidates with less than two years experience who are prepared to learn on the job under close supervision from the principal.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Fundraising

  • Aggressively pursue funding to support the school and its programs in collaboration with Principal
  • Coordinate and manage any compliance requirements
  • Maintenance and tracking of grants
  • Identify and build relationships with funders including foundations, corporations, government agencies and community based organizations.
  • Write and track funding proposals
  • Administer and maintain a comprehensive database system for tracking prospects, donor records and Voices supporters
  • Mobilizes the Board to become a fund raising entity
  • Ensure appropriate acknowledgement correspondence is sent to all donors and prospects
  • Plan and execute annual fundraising plan in consultation with principal
  • Include all Voices’s stakeholders in fundraising process
  • Fundraising event coordination and execution
  • Support faculty/staff/parents/students in grant writing, requests and maintenance
  • Make funding cold calls and network with prospective funders

2. Reporting

  • Undertakes any preparation and reporting requirements in consultation with the principal
  • Attend regular and special board meetings

3. Public and media relations

  • Partnership management
  • Coordinates arrangements for advertising, public relation events, and general recruitment
  • Oversee fundraising, marketing and development
  • Mobilize school volunteers

4. Communications

  • Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders: parents, students, staff, neighbors, and partners
  • Assist with writing of newsletter, posters, flyer, etc. Coordinates publications and distribution of materials.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for the school as needed

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operations

  • Supports school and community services
  • Performs data input and assist principal with analysis of student achievement
  • Assist principal in strategic planning
  • Assist with web site maintenance and updating
  • Translation of materials as needed
  • Assist principal with school communications
  • Substitutes for operations manger as needed

Complete All Other Duties as Assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Excellent, demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills and networking instincts
  • Be prepared to learn about and passionately embrace our approach to education
  • Be culturally competent to work in a multicultural, dual language Spanish/English environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and be responsive to partners, professional advisors, funders, Voices staff, Board of Directors, and parents, etc
  • Highly professional and ability to work well independently and within a team environment, managing multiple projects and priorities, and working cooperatively to meet internal and external requests
  • Ability to mange deadlines in fast-paced environment
  • A track record of success in fundraising, networking and grant writing
  • Some familiarity in grant writing for schools or education field; non profit is preferred
  • Experience or strong interest in public education, social justice and equity
  • Solid computer skills- proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and spreadsheets and databases are necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • California charter school experience or familiarity with California charter schools regulations, laws, and funding
  • Familiarity/experience with similar Title I school communities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency\
  • Willingness to be First Aid/CPR Certified by the first day of employment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Regular requirement to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
  • Occasional interaction with unruly children
  • Occasional evening and or weekend work
  • Occasional travel

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Principal

SALARY:

  • Commensurate with experience
