About the governance Academy

The Program:

Eagle Peak Montessori School and the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) are pleased to announce the creation of The Charter School Governance Academy.  The Academy is supported by a dissemination grant from the California Department of Education and will provide year-long training on best practices for charter school board members.
The ideal school will send participants that include the school’s director or principal, the governing board chairperson and treasurer or secretary.

Although this program requires 1-3 participants per school to commit for a full year of collaborative work, the pay-off will be a highly functioning board with all necessary policies in place to support student and school success.

Benefits to schools participating in the Governance Academy:

• Developing of a complete and coherent set of by-laws, policies and corporate papers
• Attaining clearly defined board member roles, responsibilities and committees
• Learning how the school’s charter, state law and memoranda interact
• Creating a clear and regular schedule of board meetings, fiscal and academic reports appropriate for your school
• Mastering the practice of governing by staying focused on the decisions and discussions that truly matter to student success.

The Cost:

This program is FREE.

The Leaders:

Eagle Peak Montessori School, located in Walnut Creek has been in operation as a charter school for 10 years and has an effective board that has gone through many of the stages of board development. The practices that the board has instituted over time have allowed school leaders to focus on the success of students.

The Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) has supported the development and maintenance of high quality charter schools over the past 15 years.  CSDC has trained more than 100 charter school boards and 500 school leaders to focus on student success.
